Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using Neighborhood Now, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the service.

2. Description of Service

Neighborhood Now is a community safety platform that allows users to report and view safety-related incidents in their neighbourhood. The service includes incident reporting, a map view, notifications, and community moderation tools.

3. User Accounts

You must provide a valid email address to create an account. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account. You must not share your account with others or create accounts on behalf of others without their consent.

4. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

• Submit false or misleading incident reports
• Harass, threaten, or abuse other users
• Use the platform to stalk, dox, or identify individuals
• Spam, flood, or overload the service
• Attempt to access accounts or data belonging to others
• Use automated tools to scrape or collect data
• Violate any applicable laws, including Canadian federal and provincial law

5. Content Ownership

You retain ownership of content you submit (reports, descriptions, photos). By submitting content, you grant Neighborhood Now a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to display, distribute, and moderate your content within the platform. Incident reports are shared anonymously with the community.

6. Community Guidelines

Reports must be factual and good-faith. Do not include names, addresses, or identifying information of individuals in reports. Content that violates community guidelines may be removed, and repeat offenders may have their accounts suspended or terminated.

7. Emergency Services

Neighborhood Now is not a substitute for emergency services. If you are in immediate danger, call 911. Neighborhood Now is a community awareness tool, not an emergency response system.

8. Moderation

We reserve the right to remove content and suspend accounts that violate these terms. Moderation decisions are made by community moderators and administrators. You may appeal moderation actions by contacting us.

9. Limitation of Liability

Neighborhood Now is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. We do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or reliability of any incident reports. We are not liable for any damages arising from your use of the service, including reliance on incident reports for safety decisions.

10. Account Termination

You may delete your account at any time from your profile page. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms. Upon deletion, your personal data will be removed in accordance with our Privacy Policy and PIPEDA requirements.

11. Changes to Terms

We may update these terms from time to time. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance. We will notify users of material changes via email or in-app notification.

12. Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein. Any disputes shall be resolved in the courts of Ontario.
